Thorny Issue examines the rose in its entirety, moving beyond petals to include stem, leaf, and thorn. The opening highlights green and aromatic facets through cypress, black hemlock, violet leaf, raspberry leaf, and galbanum, establishing the rose’s framework.
At the heart, rose takes center stage in multiple forms. Turkish rose, rose absolutes, and rose ottos are layered with jasmine auriculatum, creating a floral body that feels expansive. Cool and warm spices add tension, reinforcing the contrast between bloom and structure.
The base brings depth and texture through immortelle, tobacco, exotic woods, and aged Madagascan vanilla, civet, and hyraceum tinctures. Thorny Issue is complex and unapologetic, a rose fragrance shaped as much by restraint as by bloom. The use of upcycled rose, cypress, and sandalwood materials adds a different kind of “green” to this modern chypre fragrance.
